Early Life
Dwayne Johnson was born in Hayward, California, on May 2, 1972. He is better known by his wrestling name, “The Rock,” and by many other pseudonyms. Dwayne started his career by playing college football for the University of Miami. He had moderate success with football, as his team won a national championship back in 1991.
His aspirations and ambitions were high, and he wanted to be a professional football player. Unfortunately, he wasn’t drafted in the 1995 NFL draft. He later signed with the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL but wasn’t too successful.
After his troubling start with football, he decided that wrestling was his calling. Johnson came from a professional wrestling family, so wrestling was in his blood. After securing a contract with WWE in 1996, he went on to have a prolific career.
Career
Dwayne’s was going great when he decided to set wrestling aside and set his sights on acting. Acting turned out to be a very lucrative endeavor, as Dwayne Johnson ultimately wound up as an A-list Hollywood superstar.
His first successful film was the Mummy Returns, where he played the Scorpion King. It was his first mainstream success, as this movie turned out to be a box office hit.
In 2005, he played a role in Be Cool alongside John Travolta. Be Cool was a comedy film, which seemed to suit The Rock perfectly.
His next acting endeavors would consist mostly of action films like the critically acclaimed Fast and Furious franchise. The Fast and Furious franchise spans over a decade. It is one of Dwayne’s most praised roles and is credited to launching his acting career.
All of his acting success still hasn’t interfered with wrestling, to which he frequently revisits. His very televised and famous feud with fellow WWE wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin was reignited in 2014, joined by the industry greats like Hulk Hogan.
He joined the cast of Ballers in 2015, playing a professional football player in retirement, focused on financial planning. The same year, he also played his reprising role in the seventh addition to the Fast and Furious franchise, and another significant role in San Andreas.
2016 was a big year for The Rock, as he was a part of the action-comedy Central Intelligence, where he received international praise for his acting efforts. He also tried his stint in voice acting, acting for the famous Disney hit, Moana. He also received recognition for this role, with critics stating that he fit the role of Maui in Moana perfectly.
Later, he joined the cast of the new Jumanji movie, titled Welcome to the Jungle. He has also played a role in the Baywatch movie, which was a reprisal of the popular 1990s TV series. He recently played a role in Hobbes and Shaw, a spin-off of the Fast and Furious.
Dwayne shows no sign of stopping, as he has a lot of upcoming movies already announced for this year and the following couple of years. He is yet again set to star in another Fast and Furious film.
