Early Life
Lamar Odom was born as Lamar Joseph Odom on November 6, 1979, in South Jamaica, Queens, NYC. He grew up in a troubled home. His father was a drug addict, and his mother passed away when he was 12 years old. From that point on, his only family was his grandmother.
He was educated at Christ The King Regional High School in Middle Village, Queens, Redemption Christian Academy in Troy, New York, and St. Thomas Aquinas High School in New Britain, Connecticut. He went on to play in college at the University of Rhode Island.
Career
Lamar Odom was dedicated to basketball from the moment he first threw his ball on a court. He was active in the high school team and during college. He was recognized as a talented young basketball player by Parade magazine and received the prestigious Player Of The Year title.
During college, he competed in the Atlantic 10 Conference and received All-Conference honors. The Los Angeles Clippers drafted him in 1999. Lamar stayed with the Clippers until 2003 when he was brought on to the Miami Heart. He didn’t stay long with Miami Heart. In 2004, he joined the Los Angeles Lakers, and the same year, he played for the US national team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
He managed to consequently win two NBA championships with the Lakers in 2009 and 2010. In 2011, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, and in 2012, he went back to the Clippers. Before official retirement in 2014, he played in Spain and on the New York Knicks.
Lamar Odom Relationships: Who He Dated?
Lamar Odom was in a serious relationship with the American fashion designer Liza Morals. After the engagement in 2000, the couple stayed together until 2007. They had three children together, Destiny, Lamar Jr., and Jayden. Jayden unfortunately passed away in 2006 from sudden infant death syndrome.
In 2009, Lamar Odom met Khloe Kardashian and started dating. The couple married within a month of knowing each other, but their marriage came to an end in 2013 after months of speculated separation. The divorce was finalized in 2016.
In November 2019, after only four months of dating, Odom proposed to his girlfriend Sabrina Parr.
In the News
In 2015, Odom was found unconscious at Love Ranch in Nevada, a legal brothel. Odom suffered heart attacks, strokes, and kidney failure. He was placed on life support after becoming comatose. Kardashian withdrew the divorce filing at the time and stood by his side.
Odom recovered, and Kardashian refiled for divorce. According to sources close to his family, he struggles with substance abuse.
