Saweetie is an American rapper and songwriter who rose to fame overnight. She became famous after one of her short rap videos on Instagram went viral. Check out her early life, career beginnings, and the latest gossip about her.

Early Life

Born Diamonté Harper in Santa Clara, California, Saweetie was drawn to rap music from a very young age. When she was only 14, she started writing her own songs, but she was determined to finish her education before seriously committing to music.

She grew up in Hayward, California, but spent most of her life in the San Francisco Bay Area. She moved several more times to finish school. After attending Monterey Trail High School, she graduated from the University of Southern California, where she majored in Business and Communications.

Career

After her college graduation, Saweetie started focusing more seriously on her rap career. She took on the nickname Saweetie because that’s what her grandma called her.

She started posting her short rap videos on Instagram, and soon one of them went viral overnight. It was the cover of My Neck, My Back, which ended up earning 10 million views on YouTube in less than a year. She later released the song as Icy Grl, which soon reached Gold status.

Saweetie went on to release a few more short rap videos, which also went viral on Instagram and Twitter. She then landed a deal to appear in an ad for Rihanna’s cosmetic company, Fenty Beauty. The very same month, she signed to Warner Bros. Records.

She released her debut EP, High Maintenance, which gained critical acclaim all over the world. About a year later, she released another EP, Icy, with the major label.

Discography

Since the start of her professional career, Saweetie has released two Eps, 19 singles – in 8 of which she is a featured artist, 5 singles.

Her hit music has earned her a Platinum single (Icy Girl) and a double platinum single (My Type). With all of her success, Saweetie doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Her debut album, Pretty B*tch Music, is to be release soon in 2020, featuring her already-hit singles “Tap In” and “Back to the Streets.”

In the News

After dating actor Keith Powers in 2014, Saweetie started dating Justin Combs, the son of the famous rapper P. Diddy. Their relationship didn’t last very long.

There was quite a bit of gossip going around her at the beginning of her career, as she was allegedly dating J Cole while he was still in a relationship with his current wife. From mid-2018, Saweetie has been dating rapper Quavo.
