Woman Killed By Ex-Husband After Talking About Divorce On TikTok

Chicago Woman Killed By Ex-Husband After Sharing She’s ‘Happier’ After Divorce On TikTok

Sania Khan, a 29-year-old photographer, was allegedly killed by her ex-husband in a murder-suicide last week in Chicago after opening up about her divorce and healing journey on TikTok, according to The Chicago Sun-Times.

Khan, a Pakistani American who relocated to Chicago for a new start, was allegedly shot and killed by her ex-husband, 36-year-old Raheel Ahmed, last Monday. She initially lived in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Reports say the killer traveled from his home in Alpharetta, Georgia, to Khan’s Chicago apartment before killing her and himself. Police found the ex-wife and Ahmed with gunshot wounds to their heads inside a residence during a wellness check, reports say.

Reports indicated that when Chicago police knocked on Khan’s door around 4:30 p.m., they heard a gunshot followed by a groan. The officers entered the home and found Khan and Ahmed both shot. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man died later from his wounds at a nearby hospital.

Sania Khan Shared ‘Happier’ Life On TikTok Before Ex-Husband Killed Her

Before tragedy struck, Khan opened up about healing after a divorce and her marital struggles on the social media platform TikTok. In one video, the ex-wife shared pictures of her before and after divorce, revealing she’d “never been happier.”

In earlier videos shared to her TikTok account, Sania claimed she felt a lack of support from friends and family. She claimed they warned her to not divorce her ex-husband. Khan said “women are always expected to stay silent.” “It’s what keeps us in messed up situations in the first place. I’m done with this mentality.”

Going through divorce as a Southasian woman feels like you failed at life sometimes. The way the community labels you, the lack of emotional support you receive, and the pressure to stay with someone because “what will people say” is isolating.

A GoFundMe account to help her family with her funeral expenses received more than $35,000 in donations.
