Chris Rock had the means and opportunity to help a friend’s brother and he didn’t do it. The comedian recently opened up to ‘The New York Times’ about that moment in his personal life. At the time, Rock had a hard rule against funding lawyers. Later, he learned the friend’s brother was innocent and spent about 17 years behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit. Now, with the story out there, social media users are dropping strong reactions to the comedian’s inaction and willingness to admit it all these years later.

Chris Rock Explains Why He Didn’t Help His Friend’s Brother
Rock, on one end, appears to be on a media tour for his new film, ‘Misty Green.’ At one point in the interview, they spoke of cancel culture, forgiveness and wrongful accusations against Black men. He then told the story of Roger Logan, a friend’s brother who was locked up for murder. Logan’s brother, according to Chris, repeatedly asked him for help with a lawyer. Chris declined, fearing the open-ended costs of legal fees. A mortgage or an education he would’ve supported, but a lawyer was a hard no.
Now, years later, his decision not to help bothers him at times. Logan, meanwhile, eventually settled separately with New York City and the state for over $6 million total, according to the New York Times.

“And it still f***s with me. I had the means to help him, and I didn’t,” Chris reportedly said. “I don’t know if we could’ve got him out or not, but still. So all that to say, I’m Black, Black men get accused of sh*t they didn’t do all the time, every day. We let Black men out of jail and go: ‘Whoops! That Black guy just did 30 years — too bad.'”
Additionally, he opened up about his experience in a Bed-Stuy police line-up. It’s unclear if Chris Rock is still friends with Logan’s brother or in touch with Logan himself.
Social Media Reacts To Rock’s Story
Chris’ comments about Logan came amid that larger conversation about wrongful accusations and cancel culture. Still, internet users had plenty to say about how he held on to his coins when a friend’s family was in need. Over on Threads, reactions ranged from comments calling out the policing of rich celebs’ pockets to shade toward Chris Rock for not doing more for his own. A few also mentioned Will Smith’s Oscars slap and how he should’ve hit the comedian harder. Yikes!
