Couple Sues Fertility Clinic After The Mother Gives Birth To The Wrong Babies Due To Embryo Mix-Up

A New York couple recently filed a lawsuit after they claim they gave birth to another couple’s children.

According to CBS News, the couple claims that the fertility clinic impregnated the mother with the wrong set of embryos. The couple had been expecting twin girls, however, they ended up giving birth to twin boys and had to give them up to their biological parents.

The unidentified couple alleges that CHA Fertility Clinic knew about the embryo mix-up and tried to hide it. The couple reportedly spent more than $100,000 on in vitro fertilization services so that they could get pregnant.

After they had finally succeeded, they gave birth in March, and the Asian-American couple was shocked to learn that neither of the children was of Asian descent.

In the lawsuit it claims that genetic testing confirmed that the babies belonged to another couple, causing them to give them up to their biological parents. Reportedly they still don’t know what happened to their embryos, which they thought were originally implanted.

The couple’s attorney said that they “sustained traumatic emotional injuries and financial losses,” and that they are suing for compensation and “to ensure that this tragedy never happens again.”

Surprisingly, this is not the first time that there has been a mix-up when it comes to implanting the embryos.

Back in 2009, Carolyn and Sean Savage also had a similar experience once they learned that their child conceived through the IVF process wasn’t actually their child.

Carolyn said, “You’re so excited, and you feel like, ‘finally,’ and then to have the rug pulled out from under you in this kind of manner is – it’s so painful.”

She continued, “I cannot express how utterly unacceptable this situation is. It is preventable, protocols need to be followed, and they need to be taken seriously.”
