A 14-year-old’s life was tragically cut short after being struck by a car while riding a stolen horse down a Dallas freeway, and two other teens are being treated for injuries.
A Car Crashed Into The Horses As They Galloped Down The Freeway
According to a statement from the Dallas Police Department, the incident unfolded at around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, and an investigation revealed that all three of the teens—aged 14, 16, and 17—were riding stolen horses.
During the unconventional joyride, a car wound up hitting the riders on Great Trinity Forest Way near Interstate 45 (aka Julius Schepps Freeway). The youngest teen sadly did not survive.
Additionally, one of the horses was killed at the scene, while another had to be euthanized by a veterinarian. The third horse is expected to survive its injuries, though.
As for the two surviving teenage riders, they’re noted to be receiving treatment at a local hospital and “remain in stable condition.”

The Driver Isn’t Expected To Face Charges
Although there’s an ongoing investigation into the ordeal, authorities noted that “no charges are expected for the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash.”
According to People, authorities pointed out that—although “preliminary information [suggested] the involved driver left the scene”—the motorist “did not leave and stayed at the location.”
We should also note that, although the horses in this case were stolen, it’s perfectly legal to ride equines on the road in most states, and it became somewhat of a trend last year in response to soaring gas prices, ABC13 reports.
