Roommates, as the country continues to rejoice following the guilty verdict of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd, many are wondering what’s next…and the first initial updates have been released. According to reports, Derek Chauvin has officially been transferred to a Minnesota Correctional Facility and his latest mugshot was released as he awaits sentencing.
Immediately after being found guilty on all three counts for the May 2020 death of George Floyd, Derek Chauvin was transferred to a restricted housing unit separate from the general population at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Oak Park Heights, confirmed by Sarah Fitzgerald, spokesperson for the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
Fitzgerald spoke to media outlets regarding Chauvin’s safety in prison, saying:
“He is on ‘administrative segregation’ status for his safety, and is in the Administrative Control Unit (ACU) at Oak Park Heights. The ACU is the state’s most secure unit. Administrative segregation is used when someone’s presence in the general population is a safety concern.”
As we previously reported, Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all three counts, second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. The jury deliberated for just 10 hours before they returned with a unanimous verdict.
Chauvin was immediately taken away to jail after Judge Cahill revoked his bail. He will remain in custody for the next eight weeks as he awaits his sentencing.
