No love story is made to be perfect and if it is then most likely its boring! R&B singer, Chrisette Michele, is no stranger to the imperfect love story as she recently got engaged to her boo, Doug Ellison, a man who she says she stopped speaking to for 7 years!
Chrisette recently sat down with Mara The Hip Hop Socialite where she opened up about those most pivotal moments between her and her now fiancé as well as details on how he proposed!
“Things started off in a romantic direction. We were in school for music – he was in school studying business, and I was in school studying the music side of business – and we hit it off kind of right away-ish. He said, give me some time…he said, give me a year, and I’ll have you signed to a major label. And I kind of didn’t want to be signed to a major label at the time, and I just wanted to sing. He had about two weeks, and I was signed to Def Jam, so that was the beginning of our business relationship. Early on to the business relationship, things got crazy! If you’ve never read about it, if you’ve never heard about it, we were in the midst of a crazy, crazy lawsuit, litigation situation with each other, and we hadn’t spoken for literally seven years. I finally walked away from the major record label side of the business and started my own label, Rich Hipster, which got signed right away to Caroline/Capital Records. I had fun with it, but I knew something was missing. I called Doug, and after speaking to him for only a couple of hours, we were inseparable again. It’s the craziest, weirdest thing because we had gone through all that together.”
A few days after the two lovebirds got reacquainted, Ellison invited Michele to the rooftop of a NYC studio where he popped the big question!
“I was suppose to have known what was going to happen next, but I get to the rooftop. There’s flower petals on the ground, the Empire State Building is in the background, and here he is, dropping down to one knee, and opening up a box, and I couldn’t do anything but scream and every kind of reaction I don’t think you’re suppose to have. I never cried, I just screamed, and screamed, and screamed.”
Chrisette Michele says that everyone is invited to the nuptials, despite her original plans for something small.
“Everybody’s coming! I’m inviting Fantasia, I’m inviting Teyana [Taylor] and Iman [Shumpert], I’m inviting everybody, and I think it’s going to be one of those big things,” she said. There’s no date yet, but she’s been dreaming of getting married at Oheka Castle in Long Island, which I’m sure will be beautiful!
I mean, who would have thought that this would happen for them 7 years later? Love is PATIENT! Love is KIND! Moral of the story, true love never dies.
