Diddy Launches New R&B Record Label & Partners With Motown

He took some time off, but he’s back! Diddy’s experience in the music industry has gained him the accolades of one of the most decorated and successful heads of the 1990s. After years of pursuing other business ventures, it looks like the mogul is getting back to his first love.

According to Variety, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, affectionately known as Love, has announced the launch of his new R&B Love Records. Diddy announced that the label marks his official return to music in a deal with Motown records saying:

“[The label] will be dedicated to R&B music and will release singles and collaborative projects from a collective of world-class artists, producers and songwriters.’

He also revealed that Love Records’ first project will be his very own album set to release this summer.

“Music has always been my first love. Love Records is the next chapter. It’s about getting back to the love and making the best of my life. For the label I’m focused on creating timeless R&B music with the next generation of artists and producers. Motown is the perfect partner for my album and I’m excited to add to its legacy.”

Motown CEO and chairwoman Ethiopia Habtemariam expressed her excitement to be working alongside Diddy stating,

This is a major moment for Motown, as Diddy is one of this century’s most important voices in music and culture; To be part of his next evolution and album is nothing short of monumental.”

Over the years, Diddy has worked closely with some of Hip Hop & R&B’s biggest stars including Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, J. Lo, Boyz II Men, Britney Spears, Kanye West, Faith Evans, Mase, Total, 112 and the Notorious B.I.G.

The mogul and father of five stepped away from music to focus on entrepreneurship for a few years before returning with a new venture–a music reality show called “Making The Band.” The show premiered in the mid-2000s and birthed multiple music groups including Danity Kane and Day26.

The Shade Room’s Justin Carter spoke with some of the artists previously signed to Diddy, who recalled having mixed experiences with his label Bad Boy Records. Check out what they had to say below!
