Oop, not Ms. Dionne Warwick getting caught up in the social media shenanigans! The iconic songstress had to set the record straight after a viral clip had folks thinking she was out here turning up at a DC Black Pride event.It turns out thatLeToya Luckett was the one stealing the show, not Auntie Dionne. But yall know Ms. Warwick wasnt about to let the internet play in her face! She kept it cute but firm with her clapback, reminding everyone shes not the one.
On Monday, May 2, Ms. Dionne hopped onto X (formerly known as Twitter) to address a post by @DariusAmore that had the internet gagged. The tweet read, DC Pride booking Dionne Warwick for Pride is kind of iconic idk, alongside a video of a performer slaying the stage in a sparkly silver dress, blue coat, and knee-high boots.
The crowd was eating it up, and with Dionnes classic ‘Walk On By’ dubbed over the clip, it was easy to see why folks got confused. The performers short blonde bob didnt help, as it looked very similar to Dionnes own signature style.
But, as mentioned, the woman shutting it down was actually LeToya Luckett, not our legendary auntie. When Dionne caught wind of the mix-up, she wasnt having it either. The 84-year-old went on X and tweeted, Happy pride month to all, but stop playing on my phone, adding a side-eye and laughing emoji for that extra shade.
The original video, posted by Gaye Magazine on Wednesday, May 28, showed LeToya Luckett serving stage presence and energy at the DC Black Pride event. Our good sis was performing her Destinys Child hit song ‘No, No, No,’ and the crowd was eating it all the way up!
Hands were waving, voices were singing, and people appeared to be having a good ol time. Its fair to say that the crowd passed the vibe check. According to Gaye Magazine, LeToya was a surprise guest, which explains why the audience was so hyped when she came out and hit them with the DC classics.
LeToya was able to laugh off the confusion as she and the Roomies took to the comments section of TSRs post. Heres what was said
