Doja Cat Cancels Her Upcoming Performances Due To Tonsil Surgery

It looks like Doja Cat will have to temporarily take a break from performing live on stage as she handles a health issue. On Friday, Doja announced that her upcoming festival performances, and her performances during The Weeknd’s tour has been canceled because she has to get surgery.

In a message posted to her Instagram Doja said,

“I wanted you to hear it from me first. Unfortunately, I have to have surgery on my tonsils asap. The surgery is routine but the recovery is going to take a while due to swelling. That means I have to cancel my festival run this summer as well as The Weeknd tour. I feel horrible about this, but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an experience for ya’ll.”

Prior to announcing the cancellation of her upcoming performances, Doja warned that bad news would likely follow the day prior.

She had taken to Twitter to share with her followers that her doctor had to cut into her left tonsil because she had an abscess. She shared that her tonsils had been infected prior to last weekend’s Billboard Music Awards. However, her condition worsened after drinking wine and vaping all day long, and as a result, she developed a growth on her tonsils.

Despite having to cancel some of her upcoming performances, Doja does have a lot to celebrate.

As previously reported, she was recently a major winner at this year’s Billboard Music Awards. She walked away with a total of four awards, three of those awards being in the R&B category.

There were some debates that took place on social media as some fans said they considered Doja to be more of a pop artist instead of R&B. In particular, Summer Walker‘s boyfriend called out Billboard as Summer lost to Doja in the R&B categories. Summer congratulated Doja on her wins and said that she may need to work harder after not walking away with at least one award.

We are wishing Doja Cat a speedy recovery.
