Social media users seem to agree that Doja Cat was a stand-out celebrity at the 2024 Met Gala! The ‘Paint The Town Red’ artist went viral for her towel and wet t-shirt looks on Monday (May 6). During a green carpet interview, Doja explained the message and method behind pulling off her wet ‘fit!

The Secret Behind Doja Cat’s Met Gala Look
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Doja agreed that expecting the unexpected when it comes to her is best. Those are the vibes she gave with her pre-carpet and carpet looks for the Met.
Before heading to the gala, Doja walked out of The Mark Hotel wearing the designer version of a look we all rock at home. Cat wore a white towel wrapped around her body and on her head. She was accompanied by the founder of fashion blog Style Not Com, Beka Gvishiani, per Getty Images.
For context, this year’s theme was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and the official dress code was “The Garden of Time.” The expected looks were floral and botanical, and because the singer-rapper anticipated that, she went a slightly different route.
Styled by Brett Alan Nelson, the ‘Streets’ artist wore a Vetements cotton dress. Though it was oversized, the t-shirt address highlighted her curves with its wet, molded look. She kept her accessories minimal, opting for diamond stud earrings and bold make-up. In addition to a smoky eye, Cat had faux, light black tears streaming down her face.
“I know that people are going to do flowers, but my flower of choice is the most used flower, cotton,” Doja told Entertainment Tonight. “And so I wanted to do a white t-shirt. Also, because a white t-shirt is timeless and it felt very poetic to choose this.”
Doja added that she doesn’t like to blend in, and she knew this wet t-shirt look would help her stand out.
“I knew it wasn’t going to blend in too much, and I don’t really like to blend in, so we went with this.”
As for how the look was achieved, Doja Cat revealed that the secret was water and hair gel.
“I’m actually wet right now, this is water,” she said. “I’m not supposed to give the secret, but it’s hair gel. It’s all hair gel, and it’s all smooth throughout the whole thing.”
The rapper added that she was “committed” to her look, meaning that she had no plans to change her ‘fit once inside the exhibition. In her words, she was “performing,” and last night was “a show” to her.

Doja Also Slayed At The Met After Party
Ms. Amala also played no games with her ‘fit for the Met Gala after-party. She pulled up to the 10th annual ‘The After’ at Casa Cipriani wearing a sheer, nude two-piece consisting of leggings and a long-sleeved crop top. Like her t-shirt dress, she had her bare breasts on display and nude underwear with the leggings. Once again, she kept the jewelry minimal.
Leading up to the Met, she also made headlines for her saran wrap fashion, including a tube top and mini skirt. She strutted New York hand-in-hand with creative director Guram Gvasalia.
