Dole Salads Recalled Due To Listeria Outbreak

If you’re a fan of Dole packaged salads you may want to head to your fridge to make sure you don’t have a contaminated bag.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a listeria outbreak has left one dead and twelve people sick. I’m sure the last thing you expect to get sick from is salad!
Thankfully health officials were able to trace the location where it all started. Apparently the outbreak began at a facility in Springfield, Ohio last summer. It wasn’t until late this month that officials learned of the source of the outbreak. The twelve people who were hospitalized were from six different states including the Michigan resident who died, Indiana, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.

The listeria bacteria can cause the life threatening illness listeriosis which is nothing nice. It can cause everything from muscle aches to a fever, and in the worst scenario, death.

Since being aware of the outbreak the facility in Ohio has been shut down as well as products withdrawn. The CDC  released information on how to identify if you may have a contaminated salad package. The packaged salads that may be contaminated begin with the letter “A” at the beginning of the manufacturing code on the package.
