Donald Glover Gives Quinta Brunson Her Flowers For Creating ‘Abbott Elementary’

There’s few feelings that hit like knowing your community supports you and appreciates your art. Quinta Brunson recently got the opportunity to bask in that support and appreciation after receiving her flowers from Donald Glover. And those “flowers” came in the form of compliments towards Quinta’s newly launched show ‘Abbott Elementary.’

“…I felt that we were making something good,” Quinta said during the 30-minute segment. “Everyone felt that we were making a good thing. And I think that’s unique.”

And the conversation featured in the season five launch of ‘The Shop’ reflected Quinta’s sentiments. Paul Rivera, Maverick Carter and LeBron James hosted the series premiere. Along with Donald, Quinta and the hosts, viewers also heard from artist J Balvin and NFL player Lamar Jackson in the March 4 premiere.

Donald Gives Quinta Her Flowers

Following the 22-minute mark, Donald and Quinta gave their independent takes on creating art on its own before trying to tackle issues. This led to Donald letting Quinta know how much of an ‘Abbott Elementary’ fan he is!

“When I watched that show, I was like so jealous,” Donald said.

Quinta interrupted saying, “Donald no, I’m jealous of you everyday.”

“But that’s what I’m saying, in a good way, that’s how I knew it was good” Donald responded. “Sometimes I watch something that’s like good, but I’m like yeah I wouldn’t have done that. Watching, I was so jealous cause I was like ‘this is a good show.’ And it’s hard to do that on network television. That’s hard to do, doing it on a big stage like that and not pulling punches and understanding yourself enough to get it through, that’s really hard.”

Who Is Quinta Brunson?

Quinta has been making a splash in the television world with ‘Abbott Elementary.‘ In late February, Deadline reported that the second episode of the show on January 4 pulled in nine million viewers on ABC. Among the age group 18-49, the show marked the network’s “strongest comedy telecast of new or returning series in nearly two years.”

The comedian first tasted internet fame with her viral ‘Ohhh, he got money’ video-sketch-turned-meme. That moment led to the publishing of her memoir ‘She Memes Well.’  Now, Quinta is the creator and writer behind a television series that’s only halfway through its first season and already on track to be a colossal hit. Not only that, Quinta also stars in her own show as teacher Ms. Janine Teagues.

Quinta Gives Flowers Too

Following Donald’s commentary, Quinta made sure to acknowledge other Black-led television shows paving the way!

“It is hard, but then what helps make it possible is what you’ve done with ‘Atlanta,’ what Issa’s done with ‘Insecure,’ what even the smaller shows like ‘Flatbush Misdemeanors,’ those things all equate to finally all the puzzle pieces coming together,” Quinta said.
