Donald Glover Reveals The Reason Why He Will Be Retiring ‘Childish Gambino’

There is no doubt that Donald Glover is a talented individual, as he has seen success as an actor, writer, producer, comedian, rapper, and singer.

However, it looks like soon Glover will really say goodbye to his musical alter ego, Childish Gambino. He first announced the news last weekend at Governor’s Ball in New York City, by saying on stage, “I’ll see you for the last Gambino album.”

On Monday during an event to promote his show “Atlanta,” Glover talked with the Huffington Post, where he reportedly said he’s ending his music career as Childish Gambino because he doesn’t think it’s “necessary” anymore.

The “Redbone,” singer said, “There’s nothing worst than like a third sequel, like a third movie and we’re like, ‘again? You know, I like it when something’s good and when it comes back there’s a reason to come back, there’s a reason to do that.”

He continued, “Like I feel like there’s gotta be a reason to do things and I always had a reason to be punk. Being punk just always felt really good to me and we always looked at ‘Atlanta’ as a punk show and I feel like the direction I would go with Childish Gambino wouldn’t be punk anymore. As much as ‘Redbone’ is a punk song because it’s a gospel song that’s on the radio, I’m like there’s only so far you can go before you just are the radio.”

Glover released his last studio album “Awaken, My Love!” in December of 2016. There was no mention of when he would be releasing his last album as Childish Gambino.

Nonetheless, fans can expect Donald Glover to appear in upcoming films, “Spiderman: Homecoming,” “Han Solo: A Star Wars Story,” and Disney’s remake of “The Lion King.”
