Signing The Bill And Dropping Soundbites

On Friday, July 4, Trump signed the bill with B-2 bombers flying overhead, as seen in this YouTube video. Joined by House Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise, he banged a gavel, posed for photos, and took in cheers from supporters at the Fourth of July event in D.C. Trump had some words of his own amid the signing, boasting that this was the most significant bill ever signed of its kind. Additionally, he claimed the trillions in spending cuts, targeting waste, fraud, and abuse, wont put people in harms way.

We made promises, and its really promises made, promises kept, and weve kept them,” Trump said. “Theres a triumph of democracy on the birthday of democracy, and I have to say that the people are happy.

Whats the Tea on This One Big Beautiful Bill?

The One Big Beautiful Bill includes permanent 2017 tax cuts, new breaks such as no taxes on tips or overtime, and a state and local tax deduction cap increased to $40,000 for five years. The top 1% will get a $61,000 tax cut in the year 2025, per Al Jazeera, while middle earners will receive $380-$1,800.

The bigger concern, however, is how the bill, according to The Guardian, could cut $1 trillion from Medicaid, slash food assistance, and axe Biden-era clean energy credits. It also allocates $350 billion for border security and defense, according to ABC News. This allegedly includes 10,000 new ICE agents for Trumps mass deportation push. The Congressional Budget Office warns itll add $3.3-$3.4 trillion to the debt over a decade, despite Trumps rocket ship growth claims. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who set a record with an 8-hour-44-minute speech against it, dubbed it a big, ugly bill that favors billionaires over the working class.

Donald Trump Flubs Civil War End Date

Meanwhile, on June 27, Trump had jaws dropping during a White House press briefing in Washington, D.C., when he fumbled a significant piece of U.S. history. While discussing his executive order on birthright citizenship, Trump took a wild detour, saying, If you look at the end of the Civil War — the 1800s, it was a very turbulent time. If you take the end day — was it 1869? Or whatever.
The Civil War ended in 1865, so Trump was off by about four years. The comment, dropped in the James Brady Press Briefing Room, sparked a storm on social media, with users questioning how the President could forget this critical year in U.S. history. The internet had a field day throwing MAJOR shade at this historical mix-up.
