Donald Trump Says Governors Will Decide When Individual States Will Reopen, After Previously Stating He Had “Total” Authority To Make Those Decisions

Roommates, Donald Trump says a lot of outrageous things, and he’s back again with another coronavirus update. On Tuesday evening, Trump completely reversed an argument he made just the day before regarding the reopening of the country!

On Monday, Trump made the argument that he had “total” author to make the decisions on whether or not states would be allowed to reopen businesses, and return to normalcy. Well, he clearly had a change of heart because he is not saying it would be up to the governors of individual states to decide when their states would reopen.

While that may come as a surprise to some, Trump’s new declaration is the fair and honest thing to do, as a governors main function is to make decisions about how their individual states will be run. Nevertheless, Donnie went on to say that some states are absolutely ready to reopen before the social distancing end date, and others are not.

“The governors are going to be running their individual states,” he said. “Some of them will say ‘no I can’t open now’ and some of them may last longer than we even think. There are numerous states that are in great shape right now. They’re set to open practically now.”

He goes on to say that at least 20 states are in “extremely good shape” and some could reopen before the end of April.

“I will be speaking to all 50 governors very shortly, and then be authorizing each individual governor of each individual state to implement a reopening –and a very powerful reopening plan of their state–at a time and in a manner most appropriate.”
