Donald Trump’s Facebook & Instagram Accounts Suspended Until At Least 2023 Under New Enforcement Rules

Whew! There was never a dull moment with Donald Trump sitting in the highest seat in the country, but he definitely turned things up a notch during the most recent presidential election. If y’all recall, Donnie used his social media accounts to praise the violence that occurred at the Capitol on January 6th, which prompted various social media sites to suspend his accounts indefinitely.

Facebook announced Friday that Trump’s social media accounts will be suspended for the next two years under new enforcement protocols the company has put in place. The new timeframe is effective from the date of the initial suspension on January 7, 2021.

“Given the gravity of the circumstances that led to Mr. Trump’s suspension, we believe his actions constituted a severe violation of enforcement protocols,” Facebook announced. “We are suspending his accounts for two years, effective from the date of the initial suspension on January 7 this year.”

The company added that it will be reviewing Trump’s previous activity on the platforms to determine whether “the risk to public safety has receded.” The announcement states that when Trump’s suspension is lifted, he risks having his pages permanently removed if he violates the platform’s community guidelines again.

“We know today’s decision will be criticized by many people on opposing sides of the political divide–but our job is to make a decision in as proportionate, fair and transparent a way as possible, in keeping with the instruction given to us by the Oversight Board.”

Facebook and Instagram seem to be giving Donnie more leniency than Twitter, however. As we previously reported, shortly after it was announced that Trump’s accounts were being temporarily suspended by Mark Zuckerberg, Twitter announced that Donald would be getting the boot permanently.

A few months later, a new Twitter account emerged and the platform quickly took it down for posting on behalf of the former president.
