Drew Brees Issues An Apology & Asks For Forgiveness As He Expresses His Support For The Black Community

On Wednesday, Drew Bress was under fire for a comment he said in a recent interview with Yahoo Finance. During the interview, he said he would never agree with anyone disrespecting the U.S. flag. He continued to talk about what he feels when the “National Anthem” is played.

His comment came at a time when the country is experiencing an uprising in all 50 states in response to racial injustice, and the number of unarmed black men and women that are dying at the hands of police. The recent death of George Floyd seemed to be the tip of the iceberg, which led to the multiple protests that we are now seeing.

Now for those who know, Drew Brees is the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, and the NFL has been highly criticized in the past for their treatment towards Colin Kaepernick, who peacefully protested against the racial injustice in our communities by simply kneeling during the “National Anthem.”

Therefore, Drew’s talk about “disrespecting” U.S. flag was not received well, and he was met with backlash from many people, including fellow athletes.

On Thursday, Drew released a lengthy apology as he acknowledged that his comments were “insensitive” and that he “completely missed the mark on the issues we are facing right now as a country.”

He continued, “They lacked awareness and any type of compassion or empathy. Instead, those words have become divisive and hurtful and have misled people into believing that somehow I am an enemy. This could not be further from the truth, and is not an accurate reflection of my heart or my character.”
