Elon Musk and Grimes are enjoying being new parents to their baby boy, but they have reportedly just hit a bump in the road regarding the child’s unusual name. According to California law, Elon and Grimes cannot legally name their son X Æ A-12 because it goes against California State guidelines.
Elon Musk and his partner Grimes became an instant trending topic earlier this week, when the couple announced their newborn son’s very interesting name, X Æ A-12. Well, as @TMZ_TV reports, that name likely won’t be recognized in California (where the child is believed to have been born) because it is deemed illegal. California law prohibits numbers and/or symbols to be included in a child’s name.
A supervisor at the Department of Public Health & Vital Records Office in Los Angeles elaborated on the legal restrictions. They confirmed that the law in California specifically states that names must only include the 26 letters of the English alphabet—which is the opposite of what Elon and Grimes did when naming their son.
After seeing just how much people on social media were discussing the child’s name, Grimes took to her Twitter account to breakdown the actual meaning, writing:
“•X, the unknown variable
- Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)
- A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent + (A=Archangel, my favorite song) (metal rat)”
Grimes later explained that she Elon also had some additional incentive to name their son X Æ A-12, as they said it was inspired by the A-12 plane — a precursor to their favorite aircraft, a CIA spy plane used during the Cold War.
