Everyone get your passports ready because we are going abroad! We all know that for the past 20 years Essence has taken over New Orleans every Fourth of July weekend for their annual Essence Music Festival. Now the festival has a new location for the next two years, and this time it’s moving to a whole new continent!!
If you’re looking to hit up Essence Music Festival in 2016 and 2017 be ready to travel all the way to Durban, South Africa!! In a partnership with eThekwini Municipality, Essence will bring the fun from New Orleans to South Africa, which will feature performances from both international and local artists.
Essence President Michelle Ebanks said in a press release, “We are delighted to partner with the vibrant city of Durban to launch the Essence Festival globally in South Africa. Hosting our first international Essence Festival in Durban purposefully extends our mission to convene the diaspora around shared aspirations.”
The Festival, which is known for bringing in millions of dollars to its own local community, will aim to bring awareness to small functioning businesses through empowerment seminars and other initiatives while in Africa. It will keep its traditional NOLA theme going, which means this sounds like it will be a lot of fun!
