We finally have our President-Elect Joe Biden selected to represent the United States of America, and with that comes a greater discussion–Who was responsible for tipping the scale in his favor? While early exit polls suggest Blacks are the reason Joe Biden will be sworn into office, Eva Longoria said something a bit different.
On Sunday, while discussing the Latina impact with MSNBC’s Ari Welber, Eva Longoria stated Latina women were the “real heroines” in this election.
In part, she expressed, “women of color showed up in big ways. Of course, you saw in Georgia what Black women have done but Latina women were the real heroines here, beating men in turnout in every state and voting for Biden-Harris at an average rate of 3:1.”
She received a bit of backlash because according to the New York Times, Black women voted for Biden at 91% in comparison to 70% of the Latino vote.
Eva Longoria apologized after her remarks and attempted to clarify what she was speaking of. In short, she stated,
“I’m so sorry and sad to hear that my comments on MSNBC could be perceived as taking credit from Black women. When I said that Latinas were heroines in this election, I simply meant that they turned out in greater numbers and voted more progressively than LATINO MEN.”
Also according to The New York Times, Latino women voted 70% for Joe Biden in comparison to Latino men at 60%.
Eva ended her message saying, “Together, we are unstoppable! Nothing but love and support for Black women everywhere! You deserve a standing ovation!!!!”
