As many of you know, singer #TamarBraxton is in the middle of a divorce from estranged husband #VincentHerbert. Tamar’s mother Evelyn is glad that the relationship is ending, because she says that her daughter has been suffering physical and emotional abuse throughout the 10-year marriage. “It was definitely a volatile relationship,” Ms. Braxton told @TheGrio. “This has been going on for years.”
She explained that behind closed doors Vince was a totally different person than he appeared to be. “Everybody saw Vince as a knight and shining armor, [but] behind closed doors that’s a horse of another color. I’m tired of [Tamar] being abused and misused.” Ms. Braxton later added, “They’ve been trying to hide it for years. And I have the audacity to tell the truth.”
The mother of six also confirmed to #TheGrio that the incident at a Ritz-Carlton last year where Vince allegedly bit Tamar’s hand until she bled was true. Evelyn says that her other daughters tried to intervene on many occasions as well. “Her sisters have been trying to fight Vince for a long time but it was always denied,” she says.
Evelyn tells The Grio that she is choosing to speak out now, because too many women die as a result of domestic violence and she wants to prevent that from happening to Tamar. “I think too many women are abused, and it’s high time that we stand up and stop this madness,” she says. “Do you know how many women are killed each year? I just don’t want Tamar to be a part of that.”
She continued, “If anything happens to Tamar, that’s Logan’s (Tamar and Vince’s son) loss. That’s my loss. That’s her family’s loss. I don’t want that kind of pain,” she adds. “Enough is enough. I don’t care how much they smile. I don’t care how much they pretend.”
