Everything We Know So Far About Rihanna’s Upcoming Dancehall Album!

We’ve been impatiently waiting for some new #FentyMusic and now we hear that Rihanna has been in the studio for over a year working on a new dancehall and reggae-inspired album!

We first found out that Rihanna had plans to explore her Caribbean roots for a full project back in the June issue of Vogue, but now more details about the forthcoming album are out thanks to Rolling Stone! The magazine spoke with eight sources close to the project and confirmed that Roc Nation has been scouting for beats. And clearly everyone is HERE for the album because they report Jamaican producers and songwriters have submitted around 500 records thus far!

“They’re only choosing 10 records. They’ve been having writing camps and trying to keep them quiet for almost a year and a half now. I’ve been flying to Miami, flying to L.A., cutting records nonstop for this project,” a producer told Rolling Stone.

We don’t have a release date yet, sources close to the project say they want it to be real dancehall music. “Their whole thing was, ‘Yo, we’re gonna make this [album] real dancehall, [real] Caribbean,’” a producer said. “Rihanna is Bajan, so let’s make this a full project like that. To me, it hasn’t been going that way. They’re kind of mixing it up, putting in the pop. If the reggae artists and producers won’t get the chance on the pop album, at least let us survive on the dancehall album. They’re changing up the direction continuously.”

Rihanna’s other reggae-inspired tracks include 2010’s “Man Down,” 2011’s “You Da One,” and 2016’s “Work!”

Sis is reportedly working on a pop album at the same time too!
