Ex-Wife Of Jeff Bezos, MacKenzie Scott, Donates More Than $130 Million To A Handful Of HBCUs

#Roommates, Christmas came early for a number of American organizations, including several Historically Black Colleges and Universities, as they recently received an enormous donation from MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of billionaire Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. MacKenzie just announced a whopping $4.1 billion donation to almost 400 organizations across the country—as she continues to give away her billion-dollar divorce settlement.

@Forbes reports MacKenzie Scott, the former wife of the current richest man in the world, recently announced that she’s donated more than $4.1 billion over the past four months to nearly 400 organizations in an effort to help them fulfill the basic needs of many Americans who are currently struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While her list of beneficiaries is lengthy, some of the notable standouts include several HBCUs.

Morgan State University, North Carolina A&T University, Virginia State University and Clark Atlanta University are just some of the HBCUs that MacKenzie donated her multi-billion divorce settlement to. Morgan State received $40 million, North Carolina A&T received $45 million, Virginia State $30 million and Clark Atlanta was gifted $15 million. “This pandemic has been a wrecking ball in the lives of Americans already struggling,” Scott wrote explaining her decision.

She continued, adding “Economic losses and health outcomes alike have been worse for women, for people of color, and for people living in poverty. Meanwhile, it has substantially increased the wealth of billionaires.”

As we previously reported, MacKenzie Scott received one-quarter of Jeff Bezos’ Amazon stock in their divorce settlement in 2019, officially making her the third richest woman in the world behind L’Oreal heir Francoise Bettencourt Meyers and Walmart heir Alice Walton. Scott is worth an estimated $55.1 billion, according to current calculations, after taking into account her newest charitable offerings.
