Imagine waking up from your nap into a real-life nightmare! Waking up alone anywhere other than your bed completely abandoned, especially in an airplane, definitely sounds like the start of an apocalyptic movie, but for one woman that was a reality and now #AirCanada is investigating.
Tiffani Louise O’Brien said she fell asleep while on a flight headed for #Toronto and woke up inside the dark plane that was parked for the night at Toronto Pearson International Airport, @CTV reports.
“I’m thinking this isn’t real. It was completely pitch black,” O’Brien said.
While she was attempting to #FaceTime a friend to get help, her phone died and she was only able to escape after she signaled airport officials.
O’Brien’s friend, Deanna Dale, was the one who dropped O’Brien off at the airport.
“I told her ‘Just text me when you’ve landed or before you get home,’” Dale said.
Dale said it was about 11:45 p.m. when she received a message from O’Brien saying that she woke up and was alone on the plane.
Dale said she asked O’Brien if she could get off the plane, but O’Brien replied that she was locked inside the aircraft.
Dale said she tried several times to call O’Brien back after their FaceTime call ended and then contacted Pearson Airport to get her out.
“I said ‘My friend is trapped on the airplane, in the dark, locked in and she just woke up. I need someone to go and get her.’”
A panicked O’Brien said she reached the cockpit in the dark and found a flashlight.
“I was trying to signal for help,” she said.
O’Brien said she was found by airport officials and escorted back to the airport, before she hurried out of there and drove home.
A spokesperson for Air Canada told CTV News the company is reviewing the matter. The airline said in a statement: “We have followed up with the customer and remain in contact with her.”
