Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Drafts New Bill That Will Allow Citizens To Shoot ‘Looters And Rioters”

Roommates, it’s looking like things in Florida may be taking a turn as their governor Ron DeSantis has drafted new “anti-mob” legislation that would allow armed citizens to shoot suspected looters or anyone engaged in “criminal mischief,” according to the Miami Herald.

Apparently, the new bill is an effort to put specify DeSantis’ previous pledge to crack down on “violent and disorderly assemblies” when protests formed all over the country in response to racial injustice and police brutality.

The new proposal would also make it a criminal penalty for people involved in violent “assemblies.” Under this new law,  it would be considered a third-degree felony if you were to block traffic during a protest, or offer immunity to drivers who claim to have unintentionally injured protestors who block traffic. Looting would also be on the list of “forcible felonies” to justify the use of force. If someone within 500 feet is in the act of “looting or rioting” armed citizens can take matters into their own hands.

When referring to the bill during a press conference, DeSantis said: “You see videos of these innocent people eating dinner and you have these crazed lunatics just screaming at them and intimidating them on a public accommodation.” He added: “You aren’t going to do that in the state of Florida.”

Hoping that this new bill doesn’t lead to more deaths. 2020 has been a year of unprecedented events. Wishing everyone in Florida well during these times!
