Day ten of the #DerekChauvin trial continued today. Dr. Lindsey Thomas, a forensic pathologist, testified that George Floyd died due to “subdual restraint and compression” from law enforcement officers.
The pathologist who testified that she had performed over 5,000 autopsies gave very critical testimony for the state, in which she testified that she wasn’t being paid to do so.
Thomas also testified that Floyd wouldn’t have died that night, if it had not been for the subdual restraint and compression from the officer, Derek Chauvin.
With so many videos and from different angles, Thomas said she never had a case like this. “In this case, I believe the primary mechanism of death is asphyxia or low oxygen,” she told the court.
Making it clear that George Floyd did in fact die at the hands of officers, Thomas said, “The point is that it’s due to law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression. What it means to me is that the activities of the law enforcement officers resulted in Mr. Floyd’s death.”
As you know, Thomas is one of many witnesses who support the fact that George Floyd would still be alive had it not been for Derek Chauvin’s knee on his neck, which many have testified stopped him from breathing.
If you recall, one witness–the longest-serving Minneapolis Police Officer, Lt. Zimmerman stated it was “Totally unnecessary,” when asked his opinion about
the strategy used against George Floyd. Zimmerman continued, “Pulling him down to the ground facedown and putting a knee on the neck for that amount of time is just uncalled for.”
