.J.R. Smith was reportedly arrested in Hunt County, Texas, on Tuesday, September 29. The former NBA baller was allegedly arrested on an assault charge involving a relative.
Former Cleveland Cavaliers’ shooting guard Earl Joseph Smith III was arrested on Tuesday in Hunt County, Texas, according to TMZ. The former NBA baller was reportedly arrested on an ‘assault causing bodily injury family violence’ charge. Smith was taken to the Hunt County Detention Center and booked on the assault charge. TMZ also reports that no bond has yet been set for J.R. His brother was reportedly with him when officials pulled him over for the arrest and took over the car they were traveling in.
Smith reportedly beat up a man who vandalized his car back in May 2020, according to TMZ Sports. The beat-down reportedly happened during the George Floyd protests in Los Angeles. Video captured Smith kicking the man in the head before his friends pulled him off.
“One of these motherfu*cking white boys didn’t know where he was going and broke my f*cking window in my truck,” said Smith. “I chased him down and whooped his a*s.”
Not only that, but Smith allegedly stole a fan’s cell phone back in 2018, as reported by TSR. Smith snatched the phone and threw it in a construction zone after the fan took a picture, despite J.R. declining to be photographed.
“I want to continuously get better at understanding and being a person of higher intellect,” he said. “I feel like I got a lot of knowledge in the games or in the sports and how to build really good teams…. I want to see the youth graduate. I want to see these young kids prosper and be amazing people. I think there’s so many intelligent minds there.”
