Fort Worth Mayor Issues Public Apology To The Family Of Atatiana Jefferson

As the family, friends and many around the country are still trying to process the senseless and untimely passing of 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson at the hands of a Forth Worth police officer who shot and killed her while she was inside a home visiting family—the Mayor of Fort Worth recently held a press conference addressing the heartbreaking incident.

It’s only been a few days since Dallas resident Atatiana Jefferson was sadly killed while inside a home playing video games with her 8-year-old nephew. Fort Worth police officers responded to call from a neighbor who noticed that the front door of the home was open and the lights were on inside. When police arrived, they did not announce themselves or announce that they were police, before one of them open fired and shot Jefferson, who died at the scene.

Now, as reported by @ABCNews, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price released an official statement in a press conference regarding Jefferson’s passing:

“Writing a statement like this is tragic and something that should never be necessary. A young woman has lost her life, leaving her family in unbelievable grief. All of Fort Worth must surround Atatiana Jefferson’s family with prayers, love and support.”

Price also assured the public and Jefferson’s family that the Fort Worth police department is making a commitment to conduct an investigation, saying they “are acting with immediacy and transparency to conduct a complete and thorough investigation.”

We want to continue to send our prayers out to Atatiana Jefferson’s family and friends during this difficult time.
