Roommates, we are praying for the students of Clark Atlanta University, Spelman, and Morehouse, who were at a block party when shots rang out. We initially reported two students had been hit by bullets, and that number has now doubled.
According to WSBTV, police found four female students who had been hit by bullets, and many others were injured. The shooting reportedly happened during a block party near Clark Atlanta’s campus around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Police are speculating there was some sort of confrontation between two groups before bullets began to fly.
“It appears there were two separate groups that were targeting each other and the students in the crossfire.” said Atlanta Police Capt. William Rucker.
Police confirm all students who had been hit are between the ages of 17 and 19. One girl was reportedly shot in the chest, another in the legs, and the other two girls were grazed by the stray bullets.
As the start of classes approaches, students were out enjoying welcome week festivities, and unfortunately it ended in a tragic shooting.
WSBTV spoke with one Clark Atlanta University freshman who says she had second thoughts about going out to the block party last night. And thank God she did.
“I was telling my roommates, I was like, ‘Y’all, its class tomorrow lets stay in’. said freshman Samone Wright. “Thank God I was taking forever to get dressed right after it happened.”
Authorities have not yet identified those involved in the shooting, but are carrying out a full investigation. Witnesses say a young black man was seen wielding a gun after becoming combative with another student. Police have subpoenaed surveillance footage from a nearby campus library.
Please continue to pray for the students effected by this tragic occurrence, Roomies. Also keep the families of those students in your thoughts at this time!
