Back in February Frank Ocean’s father, Calvin Cooksey, filed a lawsuit against him for libel after the singer published an open letter to Tumblr.
In the letter that was published shortly after the Orlando shooting, the singer reflected on a moment with his father from his childhood where he said, “I was 6 years old when I heard my dad call our transgender waitress a f*ggot as he dragged me out of a neighborhood diner saying we wouldn’t be served because she was dirty.”
Cooksey denied that the incident happened and claimed that his son’s accusations “damaged his financial opportunities in film and music,” and requested $14.5 million.
TMZ reports that Frank Ocean and his legal team responded to his father’s lawsuit, where Frank claims his statements in the post are true, and that’s enough defense against his father’s lawsuit.
Frank is also asking that the court dismisses his father’s lawsuit and that his father covers his own court expenses.
