There has been a great outpouring of admiration and love for Kobe Bryant following his passing. But, the positive has also brought some not so positive things to light.
As we previously reported, Kobe Bryant lost his life in a helicopter crash alongside his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and some of their closest friends. And while a large part of the world has honored Kobe and his legacy, some folks have become critical of his life as a basketball player, a father and a husband.
More specifically, allegations from Kobe’s past have become a topic of interest for comedian Ari Shaffir and Gayle King, who seemed to be very critical of Kobe’s case back in 2003. And during this time of mourning, many people who have been inspired by Kobe Bryant have found themselves having to defend his legacy in anger.
Gary Owen, however, has come through with a message for the black community, saying he admires how much power and strength we have when we come together. He even name drops Ari and Gayle, expressing how important it is to speak out when people come for one of our own!
“I just want people to realize what can happen when black people really come together,” he says. “Because black people were like ‘look you ain’t talking about Kobe, you ain’t talking about our hero’.”
He continues saying:
“Ari Shaffir didn’t value what black people bring to the table. Gayle King didn’t realize don’t be bad mouthing Kobe,” he says. “I just want people to realize howpowerflul black people are when they come together. Notice this pass week, Ari got dropped by his agency and comedy clubs have cancelled his gigs, and this is coming from a white guy.”
