Georgia Woman Gets Her Church Membership Taken After Disagreeing With Her Pastor

A church in Georgia has revoked membership from a 103-year-old woman for not seeing eye to eye with the pastor.

Page Six reports that Genora Biggs disagreed with her churches pastor, Timothy Maddox about his direction of worship practices; and because of her input, they gave her the boot!

Genora allegedly has been a member of Union Grove Baptist Church for the last 92 years. She claims to have roots, seniority, and a great deal of knowledge in and of the church so she felt her input should have been more thoroughly acknowledged as opposed to retaliated against.

Genora claims that pastor Mattox was trying to take the churches worship practices in a new direction that didn’t reflect traditional Baptist practices or beliefs. She names “laying hands on members” as one of those things.

So long story short, pastor Mattox says Genora speaking up was considered “displaying conduct detrimental to the congregation.”

“He is a holy sanctified minister or so he says. We voted him in and we didn’t know it until he was there. We are Baptists and that’s what we want to stay,” Genora said.

A union statement was released which stated:

“It was determined by the congregation during a church conference meeting, which Mrs. Biggs was present at the time of the meeting, that the behavior of Mrs. Biggs and others was detrimental to the church at large and could no longer be allowed,” according to the statement.

Apparently church members joined the pastor in voting to revoke Genora’s membership. That didn’t stop her though. She continued to come to services. She claims that one Sunday there was a police officer there on behalf of the pastor. Luckily, the officer told the pastor he couldn’t make her leave her church.

The church also banned Eliott Dye, Genora’s grandson, and member of 30 years, alongside Kevin Hamm, an ordained minister and member of the Church.

Genora says she tried to talk with Pastor Mattox but his mind is made up. She said he kept saying, “You can’t come over here, period.”

Sheesh! You can’t even attempt to keep tradition or voice your opinion these days!
