So Get Out star #DanielKaluuya is set to star in a new film written by Emmy award-winner #LenaWaithe called Queen & Slim. Grammy award-winning director #MelinaMatsoukasshe is behind many of #Beyoncs most iconic visuals including Lemonade and Formation as well as #IssaRaes Insecurewill be making her feature directing debut on the project!
According to @Deadline, #QueenAndSlim, is about a black man and black woman on a first date that goes awry after the two are pulled over by a police officer at a traffic stop. They kill the police officer in self-defense and go on the run, rather than turn themselves in.
In a statement, Lena Waithe delved deeper into the meaning of the film. To me this is protest art, Waithe said in a statement. Its about being Black and trying to fall in love in a world thats burning down around you. Matsoukas added, “Its a film that defines black love as a revolutionary act. It shows that our union is the greatest weapon against the assault on black people in America.”
Waithe and Matsoukas are currently trying to cast Queen so keep an eye out for casting calls, Roommates!
