Governor Andrew Cuomo Announces The Temporary Closure Of All Personal Grooming Businesses In New York & Surrounding States

Roommates, as the days go by, news of how the coronavirus is impacting states continues to get even more daunting. So far, clothing stores have closed, restaurants are only available for delivery ad take-out, and now, all personal grooming businesses are closing.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has just announced that all barber shops, hair and nail salons, tattoo parlors, and all other grooming services will be closed effective Saturday at 8 PM. And while it may seem like people are going to be neglecting their looks for the sake of the virus anyway, folks in the states of New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania are not happy about the temporary policy.

Additionally, Cuomo has signed an Executive Order, calling for all of the workforce to stay home, with the exception of essential services. He says this is the “ultimate step” in New York’s effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“When I talk about the most drastic action we can take — this is the most drastic action we can take,” Cuomo said. “I believe these policies will save lives. And I’m not willing to put a price on a human life.”

The governor is also enforcing social distancing, and encouraging people to partake in activities alone.

“It’s running. It’s hiking,” he said. “It’s not playing basketball with five other people. Thats not what it is. It’s not laying in a park with 10 other people and sharing a beer. Thats not what this is.”
