A high-profile case in Burke County involving a deadly shooting earlier this year has reached a conclusion. After months of investigation and a closely watched court appearance, the legal process has come to an end. The case, which drew significant public interest, centered on the events leading up to the death of a 30-year-old man and has now officially been decided by a grand jury.

Hannah Cobb’s Case Outcome
A Burke County Grand Jury has decided not to indict Hannah Cobb, 28, in connection with the February shooting death of Telvin Osborne, 30. On February 25, Cobb was arrested and charged with felony involuntary manslaughter after telling deputies she was checking her gun when it discharged and struck Osborne in the chest.
Following her arrest, she was granted and made a $25,000 bond in March. Additionally, Cobb was placed under Level 1 monitoring and ordered to surrender all firearms. The District Attorney says that the case is now closed.
What Happened That Fatal Night?
Deputies responded to a call around 5:45 a.m. on February 23 at a residence on 4 Points Road in Keysville. Cobb told responding officers she was “checking” her 9 mm pistol, something she and Osborne reportedly did every night, when it went off. However, a 911 recording reveals Cobb initially told dispatchers she was cleaning the gun. But Sheriff Alfonzo Williams later stated there was no evidence suggesting the gun was being cleaned. It was also confirmed that alcohol was involved. And, it was reported that authorities initially did not consider the shooting accidental.

Cobb’s family described the couple’s relationship as chaotic, citing emotional and occasional physical abuse, as well as infidelity. Prosecutors presented evidence suggesting the couple had been out at clubs until 2 a.m. in Augusta and had argued that night.
Cobb provided Ring camera footage of the couple arguing and the physical altercation that followed. Cobb’s friends report that she got upset after believing he was talking to another woman. Following the argument, she told him to get out, which he did. She claimed that Osborne returned to the house and pulled a knife, threatening her. Also, she told authorities where to find the 8-inch knife, which they did find.
Text messages shown in court reportedly include Osborne telling Cobb, “You’d better hide.” And the defense claimed Cobb called Osborne’s mother to help calm him down. Additionally, investigators reported arriving at the scene to find Cobb administering aid to Osborne after the shooting.
