#Roommates, just days after a disturbing viral video clip of a Gwinnett County, Georgia police officer tasing a woman who was on her front porch—that officer has officially been fired. New reports have confirmed that former police officer Michael Oxford was terminated following the tasing incident involving Kyndesia Smith.
@AJCNews reports, the Gwinnett County, Georgia Police Department recently released an official statement confirming that Michael Oxford’s position as a police officer has been terminated following an internal investigation. In the statement, Oxford was said to have “violated [Gwinnett County Police Department’s] policy and did not meet our core values.” Prior to his termination, Oxford was placed on a brief administrative leave.
Additionally, the statement reiterated that there was “probable cause to arrest Smith for Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer and that the subsequent use of force was within policy.” It was also confirmed that Oxford was fired because he violated the department’s core value of “courtesy.”
Video of the tasing and arrest of Kyndesia Smith has been shared more than 214,000 times and viewed nearly 20 million times. In the shocking clip, Oxford is seen trying to detain Smith after reportedly responding to a disturbance call while she and others sit on her front porch.
A struggle ensues as he attempts to place her in handcuffs. The situation got even more intense when Oxford then proceeded to pull out his taser and fires it at Smith, who then falls into the bushes in the front yard of her home.
As we previously reported, in the police report from Oxford, alleged he was dispatched after a neighbor accused one of the women on the porch of throwing a bottle at her car and threatening her.
