Whew! Halle Berry had time for all of the folks trolling her comment section under a recent post empowering women, and she emptied the entire clip after one user brought her ex-boyfriend into the conversation.
Halle Berry has been paying child support to her ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry for some years now, and said having to make those payments is “wrong and extortion” while replying to a user in her comments. Halle reportedly pays $16,000 a month in child support, and it’s safe to say she isn’t too thrilled about it.
“It takes great strength everyday to pay it. And BTW it’s wrong and extortion!…The way many laws are set up, people are allowed to use children in order to be awarded money to live a lifestyle that not only they did not earn, but that is way above and beyond the child’s reasonable needs, and that is ‘THE WRONG’ and where I see abuse.”
The child support conversation comes up often within the Black community, and usually, Black fathers are the ones footing the bill. Halle went on to say that she understands how those men feel, and believes the child support laws should be updated.
“The laws are outdated and no longer reflect the modern world,” she said. “This is just my opinion, I clearly don’t own the truth. I can say I’m living it every day, and I can tell you it’s hard. I do totally understand the feelings of those men who feel they are and have been taken advantage of by the system.”
Halle and Gabriel dated for about 8 years in the early 2000’s and have a 12-year-old daughter named Nahla.
