Former Raiders Star Henry Ruggs Agrees To Prison Sentence For DUI Case, Faces Between 3 To 10 Years

Henry Ruggs, 24, has agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors in his DUI case. Now, he faces between three and10 years in prison, depending on a judge’s next move, TMZ reports.

On Tuesday, the former Raiders star receiver and his lawyers revealed details of the deal at a hearing in a Nevada courtroom. Ruggs agreed to plead guilty to one felony count of DUI resulting in death and one misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter. The charges stem from the deadly 2021 Las Vegas car crash he was involved in.

Ruggs spoke at the hearing, agreeing to the details of the plea deal.

Judge To Rule On Agreement At Another Hearing Next Week

Next week, a judge will rule on the agreement at another hearing. Should the judge not agree to the details put forth, Ruggs’ attorneys said the deal allows for their client to withdraw his guilty pleas and move forward with a trial.

Ruggs’ lawyers, David Z. Chesnoff and Richard A. Schonfeld said that the plea “was the first step toward a fair resolution to this matter.”

“We look forward to closure for all the parties involved.”

Ruggs Originally Faced Upwards Of 46 Years In Prison, Immediately Cut From NFL

As previously reported by The Shade Room, officials originally charged Ruggs with four felonies and a misdemeanor in this case. Prosecutors said he slammed his Corvette into the back of Tina Tintor’s car, killing her and her dog. He was reportedly drunk at the time.

Ruggs was traveling at upwards of 158 MPH in the moments before the crash, with a blood alcohol level at twice the legal limit, prosecutors said.

In Dec. 2021, The Shade Room reported that Ruggs was facing upwards of 46 years in prison in relation to the charges.

As the 12th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Raiders immediately cut Henry after the accident, and he hasn’t stepped on the NFL field ever since.
