Jada Pinkett-Smith’s Mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris Celebrates 31 Years Of Sobriety

Jada Pinkett-Smith‘s mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris, who is also known as Gammy, has been open about her past addictions, and on Wednesday, she celebrated another year of sobriety.

Gammy shared a video of herself and said, “Today is my anniversary. My clean date, 31 years, one day at a time, and that passage in the basic text couldn’t be more appropriate on a day like today because for me that passage is about surrender. I’ve spent so many years in that insanity of active addiction, running in and out, and just that revolving door tryna get my life back together and you know that surrender was a struggle. But it was the surrender that was the beginning of a change in my life.”

She shared another video of her scenery and added, “When at the end of the road, we find that we can no longer function as a human beings, either with or without drugs. We all face the same dilemma, either go on as best we can to the bitter ends, jails, institutions, or death, we’ll find a new way to live. Basic text, page 87.”

Gammy has spoken about her past addiction to heroin on Red Table Talk. Back in January, they aired an episode based on surviving addiction, and in the episode, Jada spoke about her mom’s addiction and said, “I think I didn’t find out my mother was addicted to heroin until I was in my teens. I could tell when my mother was high. She couldn’t make it on time to pick me up from school, or she’s nodding off, falling asleep in the middle of something, you just realize, oh that’s not being tired, that is like a drug problem.”
