Janet Jackson’s marriage to James DeBarge was annulled after just one year, however, rumors have circulated for years as to whether or not she secretly gave birth to a daughter in 1984. DeBarge’s mother, Etterlene DeBarge, recalls a conversation in which she first acknowledged that she could be pregnant.
“I told her she was pregnant. I didn’t ask her,” DeBarge tells #InsideEdition. “I said, ‘Girl, you pregnant. Look how fat you’re getting.’ She just laughed it off. She never denied it.”
After Jackson’s marriage to James DeBarge dissolved, the DeBarge matriarch says that the ‘Rhythm Nation’ singer disappeared from the public eye which only fueled speculation that she had allegedly given birth to their child.
Over the years, many women came forward claiming to be that child but turned out not to be. It wasn’t until one day that DeBarge met a woman from Philadelphia who agreed to a DNA test. “I told her, the proof is in the pudding let’s go get a DNA test.”
The results of the DNA test allegedly stated that the “probability of relatedness is 96.7 percent.” The woman is now 31 years old.
