Jasmine Guy reacted to internet trolls who critiqued her appearance following the debut of ‘A Different World’ on Netflix. The reboot premiered on Thursday, September 24, and the 64-year-old actress reacted to the wayward critics with an Instagram post.
Guy shared a post with her Instagram followers on Sunday, September 28, set to Al Green’s ‘Simply Beautiful.’ The post included several pictures of Guy looking gorgeous wearing a gold evening gown, as well as a message about the internet being “brutal” to aging women.
“The internet can be brutal to women as we grow older,” she wrote. “It asks us to celebrate life while criticizing every sign that weve lived it. Growing older brings change, and I wont pretend every change is easy. But beauty, style, and joy dont have an expiration date. Lets spend less time judging ourselves and each other, and more time loving each other, making memories, and living the life were here to live Makeup @geishaboii. The post came amid criticism of Guy’s appearance following the premiere of the ‘A Different World’ reboot on Netflix. Several compared her appearance from the original show which premiered nearly 40 years ago when Guy was in her 20s to now.
For example, X user @dawes76 wrote on the platform, “Jasmine Guy did not age well AT ALL smh”
While X user @PureSitcoms added, “She aged like a Golden Girl”
Fans flooded TSR’s Instagram page with support for Guy after seeing her statement. Several Roomies reminded folks of Guy’s age in the comment section, while other folks critiqued the internet.
User @wendilabella noted, “Yall do know shes in her 60s right.”
User @justkaykay0810 wrote, “She ain’t lying aging is an honor and blessing many do not receive. So be kind to the natural process.”
@shantoria__ replied, “She looks great and shes almost 70. Aging is a blessing!”

@foreverflyyy_bkup also defended Guy in the comment section. “Yall expecting a near 70 year old to still look the way she did over 30 years ago is crazy! If were all lucky enough well reach her age & look half as good as she does!”
@blachaz3 was annoyed by the trolling and subsequent response by Guy. “Im pissed yall forced her to make a statement ”

The ‘A Different World’ reboot premiered on Netflix on Thursday, September 24, and its set at the fictional HBCU Hillman College. Guy returns as Whitley Gilbert-Wayne, and Kadeem Hardison returns as her husband, Dwayne Wayne. The show follows her daughter Deborah (played by Maleah Joi Moon) as she navigates life at her parents’ alma mater.
Guy received her flowers, literally, from the reboot’s cast as they called her a “legend” in a video shared on Instagram. The ‘School Daze’ actress noted the moment while sharing the clip with a caption.
“Theres something truly special about receiving your flowers while youre here to enjoy them,” she wrote. “To my amazing cast family, thank you for the love, the kind words, the appreciation, and for taking the time to celebrate me. I dont take any of it for granted. After all the years, the work, the memories, and the moments weve shared, it means so much to be seen, valued, and loved by people who have been part of the journey. Im receiving every flower with a grateful heart. And Im giving that same love right back to each of you. Heres to the memories weve made and the beautiful moments still ahead.”
‘A Different World’ original stars Cree Summer and Debbie Allen also received flowers in the clip.
