Jay-Z Takes Out Full-Page Ads In Newspapers Across The Country To Honor George Floyd

Many celebrities and organizations are continuing to use their platforms to honor George Floyd as everyone continues to use their voices to make sure that he gets the justice that he deserves.

This week Jay-Z and his Team ROC organization teamed up with activists, attorneys, and families who have lost loved ones to police violence, to honor George Floyd through full-page ads in newspapers across the country. According to CNN, the ad quotes a portion of a speech that was made by Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma, Alabama back in 1965.

The beginning of the quote states, “Only way we can really achieve freedom is to somehow hunker the fear of death. But if a man has not discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live. Deep down in our nonviolent creed is the conviction- that there is some things so dear, some things so precious, some things so eternally true, that they’re worth dying for.”

The ad continues to quote, “So we’re going to stand up amid horses. We’re going to stand upright here, amid the belly-clubs. We’re going to stand up right here amid police dogs if they have them. We’re going to stand up amid tear gas! We’re going to stand up amid anything they can muster up, letting the world know that we are determined to be free!”

Alongside Jay-Z’s signature, the parents of Botham Jean, DJ Henry, and Antwon Rose II are also included. As well as other familiar names, including Charlamagne Tha God, Van Jones, Angela Rye, Eboni K. Williams and a host of others, including prominent organizations.

The ad was featured in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Denver Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Orlando Sentinel, and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and many other newspapers.

A rep for Jay-Z confirmed that more ads will be published in newspapers on Wednesday.

Last month, Jay-Z’s Team Roc and Roc Nation released an open letter demanding that Georgia officials seek justice in the Ahmaud Arbery case after his murder was revealed.
