Jenifer Lewis Responds To Fan’s Theory About Her Joining “The Boondocks” Following John Witherspoon’s Passing—“It Would Be Fun”

#Roommates, we are all still saddened by the sudden passing of legendary actor John Witherspoon just weeks ago, but luckily we still have his iconic film and TV roles to keep his memory alive. Another way to possibly honor him would be for an old friend to step in for his character on the upcoming reboot of “The Boondocks”—that friend would of course be everyone’s favorite, Jenifer Lewis.

Although its premiere date is over a year away, fans are still highly anticipating the upcoming fifth season of the popular animated series “The Boondocks,” which was recently given a 24-episode, 2-season order with HBO Max. However, there is a sense of sadness that surrounds the return of the series, as one of its essential characters will no longer be part of it. That character is Granddad, who was voiced by the late John Witherspoon.

Proving that social media is filled with good ideas, a Twitter user recently posted his casting theory on who could fill Witherspoon’s void—and also fit in perfectly with the existing characters:

“Picture it: Granddad passes away in The Boondocks opening of the 5th season and the boys are sent to live with Granddad’s sister: played by Jenifer Lewis. She’s the ONLY one I can think to keep that same energy.”

That’s right, his suggestion of the brilliant Jenifer Lewis is not only a fantastic idea…but it’s also one she agrees with. She responded to the tweet with this:

“Thank you one and all. I’ll check into this. It would be fun. I miss my John Witherspoon. He gave us so much so much love and laughter ya’ll.”

So, there you have it! We don’t know about ya’ll, but we are totally here for it!

Roommates, what are your thoughts on this?
