Jordan Peele Is Producing A Sequel To The 90’s Horror Film ‘Candyman’

#Roommates, my love for horror films runs deep but “Candyman” was that one movie that truly terrified me when I was a kid! I still won’t say his name in the mirror til this day because I don’t play like that.

If your bae doesn’t know Candyman, then they’re too young for you or not a big fan of horror films because Candyman is a classic.

Well, Jordan Peele, director of the Oscar-winning new horror classic “Get Out”, is set to produce a sequel to Candyman. And in the spirit of Black Girl Magic, he’s tapped Nia DeCosta to direct the movie. Universal is set to release the movie in 2020.

Of course with Jordan, he’s going to put his spin on Candyman.

The new movie is said to be a “spiritual sequel to the original and returns to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects used to be, according to Deadline. Win Rosenfeld is also a producer on the film.

Tony Todd starred as the original Candyman, an urban legend who is summoned to kill when his name is said five times by a person facing a mirror.

The project will begin to film this spring and Universal Pictures will release the movie in the U.S. on June 12, 2020. MGM is producing and financing the film.

“We cannot wait for the world to see what the mind-blowing combination of Jordan, Win and Nia bring to the legend of Candyman,” said MGM Motion Picture Group president Jonathan Glickman. “They have created a story that will not only pay reverence to Clive Barker’s haunting and brilliant source material but is also thoroughly modern and will bring in a whole new generation of fans.”
