Joshua Ruiz-Martinez, a 32-year-old Florida father, has been arrested and charged after his infant daughter drowned while he was allegedly playing video games.
According to Fox 35 Orlando, an arrest warrant for Ruiz-Martinez was issued on February 10. Additionally, the father was placed behind bars on charges of “aggravated manslaughter of a child.” Per the outlet, the 32-year-old is currently being held without bond.
According to the outlet, the fatal incident occurred on April 21, 2024. On the date, Ruiz-Martinez decided to draw his daughter a bath because she was being “fussy.” Initially, he reportedly told authorities he filled the tub up to her stomach. Then, he left her “for about three minutes to get her a bottle.” When he came back, he said he allegedly found the infant “submerged beneath the water.”
However, when cops checked the father’s computer and phone, it showed that he had been “actively” playing video games up until the time he discovered his daughter unconscious in the tub. Per WEAU, records showed he allegedly left his daughter alone for at least ten minutes.
Per the outlet, when cops shared this discovery with Ruiz-Martinez, he became emotional.
“I killed my daughter for a game? Please tell me I did not kill my daughter for a game,” he reportedly told cops.
As The Shade Room previously reported, a father in Milwaukee made similar headlines in November 2024. Jalin White reportedly told authorities that his 8-month-old son had fallen from an air mattress to the floor while he was changing his diaper.
Subsequently, the child sustained severe injuries.
However, after investigating, police determined that the infant was injured by White throwing the child at a wall after becoming frustrated over an NBA 2K video game.
