Jussie Smollett Reportedly In Talks To Return For ‘Empire’ Finale

Jussie Smollett’s name is continuing to ring bells following the scandal that cost the city of Chicago millions of dollars. Despite all of that, Jussie might be returning to his role as Jamal Lyon one last time.

As we previously reported, Jussie was written out of the show after he was brought up on charges of filing a false police report. #Empire show runner, Brett Mahoney, however, insists that it would be strange not to have Jamal make an appearance for the finale of the series, Fox News reports.

“It would be weird in my mind to end this family show and this family drama of which he was such a significant part of without seeing him,” Mahoney said. “It’s fair say it’s being discussed, but there’s no place as of yet to bring him back. There’s been no decision made.”

So far, Jussie’s character Jamal has been absent for the entire sixth and final season of the show, but his possible return could mean a turning point for the brand.

As we previously reported, Jussie told police he was attacked by two makes men as he was walking him from a Chicago Subway at approximately 2 a.m. He claimed he was the victim of a hate crime by two homophobic men yelling racial slurs at him.

Authorities, however found those claims to be false, and Jussie was charged with filing a false police report. The city of Chicago also brought a lawsuit against him seeking all of the money they spent to investigate his alleged attack.

Jussie has since filed a countersuit against the city, alleging he was a victim of a malicious prosecution that cased humiliation and extreme distress.
