Justin Timberlake Apologizes To Britney Spears & Janet Jackson: ‘I Know I Failed’

For days, social media has engaged in deep conversation surrounding the documentary about Britney Spears, ‘Framing Britney Spears,’ and, subsequently, Justin Timberlake  issued an apology.

On Friday, the singer took to Instagram and offered a lengthy apology to not only Britney Spears but also Janet Jackson. In part he stated,

“I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns and I want to respond,” he began, referencing the backlash from Spears fans that has been directed at him and others in the wake of the doc. “I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right.”

Timberlake continued, “I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism. I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed.”

As you know, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were teen stars who dated nearly 20 years ago. Justin publicly claimed he slept with Britney, even though she was adamant that she wanted to wait until marriage. He also seemingly accused Britney Spears of cheating in his song, ‘Cry Me a River,’ which featured an actress who resembled the singer.

As far as Janet Jackson, Justin let the icon take the fall for the Super Bowl “wardrobe malfunction,” in which he was responsible for pulling back the fabric that exposed her breast, during the performance. This mishap drew a major backlash from the public and an investigation by the Federal Communication Commission. While Janet felt the brunt of the situation, Justin returned to the Super Bowl in 2018.

Roomies, what do you think of this apology… nearly 20 years later?
